Philip - Do you happen to know what documents support that? I would be so excited to know more. I'll see if I can get a copy of The French Executioner, and look at the sources in there.

Sadly, I can never take anything from the TV show The Tudors as factual. They are far to interested in a bawdy yarn to bother with facts.

The name of the headsman was Jean Rombaud. Like most executioners, he was from a long family line of this profession. His other claim to fame was beheading two felons at one stroke,
a piece of work which may have gotten him the "honor" of executing The Queen.
A fictional account of his life is given in the novel THE FRENCH EXECUTIONER by C.C. Humphrey, 2001.

Kate,
Very interesting. I am going to put Lady in the Tower on my long 'to read' list and I've also added FDR's Shadow. I'm reading and loving Wolf Hall right now which is also about this period. Have you read it?
I'm glad you are blogging again and I hope you have a good day.

Wow, sorry to hear about the layoffs. Looks like the economy is really taking a turn for the worse. Citibank is also laying off 17K employees.. and rumors are circulating about other banks soon following suit...
